I was wondering what people experience is with the Microsoft SyncToy is?  I briefly talked to several high volume photographers and they consider it to be an essential part of their archiving process.

I tried it out last night and it found that I had about 1000 images that were not in the main archive, so my first impression is a good one.  It seems to be pretty powerful and I think I only touched the surface of what it can do last night.

I have not tried Microsofts Sync Toy, but instead use Robocopy (I think it stands for robust file copy) It is a comand line tool and I manually run it, but it is very powerful and quick. I use it to backup my images.

Interestingly it is now shipped with Vista whereas in the past it was part of the Resource Kit.

One of the things that really caught my interest is that SyncToy allows one to set up folder pairs.  So I have it set up to three different foler pairs right now.  I have been keeping dng, jpegs and tiffs in independent folders/drives and now with just a couple of clicks they can be synced.  I think I have heard that you can have the program run at fixed times, but I have not seen how one does that as i think I will poke around in it a bit in the future.

I di think some of the content in the mircosoft prophoto forum were interesting.  (www.microsoft.com/prophoto)

I have used SyncToy ... which started to annoy me somewhen.

Since then i am happy with Beyond Compare2 which has scripting capabilities.

Angles -

I'm curious what about it was annoying?  I have had it around for a couple weeks and it seems really simple.
