Still reading Peter's book for the first time and am learning a lot.  So I tried adding keywords in Bridge by clicking on my images and it indexed the photos and added the keywords, but when I closed Bridge and re-opened it they weren't there.  I read the help info and it said to right click on the keyword and make it permanent.  I tried selecting a bunch of them and it wouldn't let me do it in a batch. Any suggestions from the experts out there. Cheesy

Dave,

Are you adding keywords from Bridge? It's hard to tell from your description of "clicking on images...indexed the photos and added keywords". Are you using the Keywords panel in Bridge? You should just have to check the box next to the keyword to add it. To add more keywords to the list in the keyword panel, you right click and choose Add Keyword, then type a new keyword. You still have to check the box to add it to the image.

When you say you tried selecting a "bunch of them", are you talking about keywords or images?

To add the same keywords to a bunch of images, select the images in Bridge, then right click on any one of them and select "File Info". Then add keywords to the Keyword window in the Descripton Panel. You'll have to type them in or copy/paste from another application

The reference I found in the help file about making a keyword "persistent" refers to keywords that are added to an image outside of Bridge/Photoshop. If you add keywords from an application like iView Media Pro, be sure to sync annotations so that they'll be embedded into the images and read by Bridge.

I apologize for the confusing post.  I know how to add keywords to the images.  What I am trying to do is extract the keywords that I already have in the images into Bridge to use on future images.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, I would not do a lot of custom keywording in Bridge, due to performance issues.  I, personally, enter bulk metadata only in Bridge, not custom Keywords.

Are you using catalog software.

Hi Peter,

I use Portfolio 7 at the moment but am not really happy how the keywording is setup.  What is Lightroom like for setting up keywording?  I am used to doing one image at a time using File info in PS or Bridge.

Dave,
Lightroom is significantly better than Bridge for this work.
