Lost Keywords in Bridge

I lost a list of keywords in Bridge. I have discovered a couple of Adobe forum comments about this problem. Can you suggest a method for preserving keywords?

By using DAM cataloging software that harvests the keywords added in Bridge, you are able to back this work up.
Multiple keywords are easy to erase in Bridge, which is why I only do bulk metadata in Bridge, and do higher metadata in iView.

Yes, thanks to the DAM software, I did have a backup there and was able to rekey them. Can you clarify what "Persistent" means in association with making keywords permanent in Bridge? It is mentioned on page 72 of the User Guide.
I know I have seen the Persistent option, but now that I think I want to invoke it and perhaps be able to make the keywords pernament, I am unable to get it. I select keywords and right click, but "Persistent" is not an option.
Perhaps your method of just doing the bulk metadata is the best route. With MediaDex, one is able to assign keywords and also transfer them to IPTC keywords. But I am not planning to write back to the original image so the IPTC keywords are just in the database. I had hoped to create all metadata in Bridge.

For a number of reasons I outline in the book, I don't think Bridge is the best place to create metadata.
