I am trying to convert multiple DNG files to JPGs with an action that I wrote in PSCS2.  The action runs fine when I use it on individual DNG images in Photoshop.  But when I attempt to run the action as a batch process from Bridge I get an error message.  So I revert to opening all the images in PS and run the action individually.  Not a problem on 4-5 images.  Big waste o' time on 100+ images.  What am I not doing correctly in setting up the action, etc?

Charles,

Difficult to answer without knowing what your action does, step by step.  What you need to do is save the action as a text file and post here.  Maybe someone will then spot the problem.

In Photoshop there's a fly-out menu - indicated by the arrow pointing left at the top right of the actions window.  If you click on this then you will see a list of options.  Towards the bottom is an option called "Save Options...".  This will bring up a save dialog box allowing you to save the selected actions in a file with an extension of .ATN.  Unfortunately this is will give you a file that only Photoshop and similar software can make sense of.  Now quit out of the this dialog.  What you need to do is hold the Control & Alt keys down and click on the fly-out menu and, still holding Control & Alt, select the save as option. This then changes the save dialog to you a .TXT file option.  Save the actions now.  You may need to edit the text file as for me it put details for all actions in the text file and not just the one I had selected. If you are on a MAC you should hold the Command Option keys.

This tip is something that was recently posted here http://www.planetphotoshop.com/saving-your-actions-as-printable-text-files.html

Anyway post the text of your action and maybe someone can help.

Charles,
As Rick is hinting at, iView can do this really easily, without all those messy actions (insert '60's commercial fadeout here).

If you are not using iView, or other DAM application that can do this for you (at nearly 10 times the speed of doing it in Photoshop), then at least treat yourself to Dr. Brown's 1-2-3 Process.  Takes all the fuss and muss out of batching out JPEGs, TIFFs and PSDs!

Charles

If you are using iView, you could save your action as a droplet and send the files to that. You'll have to say more about that you're doing.

Peter, if I did not know any better, would I be wrong guessing that you are poking fun at the esteemed Dr. B?

Cheers ... Alan

Let's say Channeling, rather than making fun of. (Although my friend Russell Brown is no stranger to fun).
