Adobe announced that it will turn over the PDF spec to the International Standards Organization today. Now that it has become the de-facto standard for document interchange, and now that it has matured, it's ready to be administered by a larger group of stakeholders.
It took something like 15 years from the publication of the spec for it to get to this point.
This should hearten those who are skeptical of Adobe's methods and motives in promoting the DNG file format. Adobe has a great track record of competing vigorously in an environment of open standards, and doing quite well in that kind of environment.
