Greetings

I use GPS fields. On export via "Make HTML Gallery" I get a jpeg which I want, when I check it via iView I find only some of my EXIF data came with it ( I have checked the box preserve EXIF/Metadata ). GPS is AWOL umm that is  ( absent without leave ), recent post(s) being too American in there vernacular.

Is this a known bug or do I have a personal problem? I mean it works ( GPS data, is there ) if I make the jpeg in PS9 or lightroom beta.

Someone...

Terence

I have applied for access to the Iview forum(s), and awaiting approval/vetting by whom ever.

Terence,
Did you have the Preserve EXIF/GPS field checked in the Settings menu of Make HTML Gallery?  It *should* come along, but I have only started working with GPS data, and have not tested.

What camera are you using?

Hi Peter

Yes I have the Preserve EXIF/GPS "checked/selected"

Nikon D1x w/Garmin GPSMap 60Cx

I just tried this process going from a DNG in iView to CS2 and saving a jpeg for web ( with out my usual intermediate step of applying a script to ad a visual reference of the gps data onto a layer from the meta data ) and CS2 removed all my basic meta data so maybe I have a fundemental misunderstanding about what is happening here, I will re examine my process(s), yet again. Perhaps IView was not removing my meta after all but CS2 is or was, will try lightroom also for making a jpeg with meta data before opening said jpeg in CS2 for the layers of GPS and copyright.

Thanks again for your time Peter.

Greetings

I do not have the plug in with me ( gee you do not carry your CS2 install disk around with you, how naive ), but my problem may be related to " JPEG 2000 format" which has "options" such as preserve meta data, so that may be the answer. Plain JPEG versus JPEG 2000....arrgh

Lightroom beta apperently does this on the fly, preserves the JPEG meta data unless you select remove ( yes you do have to tell it to preserve meta data on "export" ).

I just tried it and on opening said jpeg in CS2 I have meta data (GPS ) still preserved with that JPEG created in lightroom. File info, select advanced, single click "disclosure triangle", scroll ( in my case anyway ).

If it turns out to be other than user error ( comprehension ), I will ask for more experienced help.

some days my learning curve resembles the flight line at "Vance AFB" ( Enid Oklahoma ) which has one of the longest aircraft runways and flatest places I have ever visited, you can see the curvature of the planet.

FWIW,

I have the same problem - if I convert a DNG from within iView to jpeg, with the "preserve EXIF" box ticked, the GPS data (and some other EXIF data) gets lost. So if I want to keep the EXIF data for the jpeg, I use ACR.
(Nikon D200)

Ben,
What EXIF gets lost?

I just had another look; apart from the GPS-data, the Camera Model & Lens Model are missing (focal length is still there).

Thanks, Ben.

The camera stuff is not so surprising (and I guess the GPS should not be either) since the camera makers do not adhere exactly to the EXIF "standard".  It is written in different ways by different cameras, and that makes for a lot of work by software companies, as they need to decode different files differently.

I've been trying to coax Phil from iView over here, but I think he's pretty busy at the moment.

I just discovered this problem myself. One issue I have with Make/Model not coming across is that flickr (www.flickr.com) uses it to enable access to EXIF information online. If there is no model, nothing shows.
