Hey Folks,

I've been trying to convert my catalog sets into keywords (on a Mac).  I understand that there are scripts for this but I'm having trouble finding a working version on this, the iView forum, and Google-wise.

I'm especially interested in the script byh Thomas White that keeps the catalog set in a "Set:Mammal_Dog_Fido" type format.  However, the "sets to keywords" script does not work for me.  I downloaded his batch of scripts from April 2006 and although the other scripts in the batch do work (e.g., filename to title) the "sets to keywords" doesn't appear to do anything at all (perhaps there is some prep that I need to do, but I can't find anyting in the script docs).   I also found another batch of scripts that looks like it might do what I need...but it's written in French.  There are a myriad of other script batches but I haven't found the one that does this function.

I know there are better things to do at 3:30 am than hunt down Applescripts -- especially when the hunt comes up empty.   Cry

What are Applescript folks doing to embed their catalog sets into keywords?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Frank

Frank,
I there a reason that you need to do this on an ongoing basis?  Are you trying to make the Catalog set information discoverable by another person of program?  Or are you just trying to keep it neat?

If it is the latter, I'd suggest that there may not be a good reason to do this at the moment, and there are some good reasons to wait (better use of your time, for one).

Peter,

Thanks for the quick reply -- and the very sound advice re: my other question.  Now that I think of it, it would probably be very beneficial to have a 'Pschology' topic category under 'Software Discussions'  Smiley   Lots of people seem to be having the same problem as me where we are trying too hard not to go too far down the wrong road; whereas, you're saying that if you use basic good practices and drive carefully, there is no wrong road -- just a slightly different (migration) route to something else.

Anyway, the only reason that I want to embed the 'catalog sets' now is that I am still ramping up to a base RAW, DERIVIATVE system.  I'm keeping my RAW's as actual raw (.cr2) files for now, and I wanted to embed the keywords into them before copying them onto the DVD backups.  That might not be necessary -- but I thought it would be a good practice if I needed to recover everything later.  And I didn't expect it to be that involved so it seemed like a no-brainer.

Not necessary at this stage?

Not necessary, and not desirable.

If you are going to archive the proprietary Raws, archive them clean. The only thing that should happen to them is rename.

You can save the data by saving the catalog, and re-export it later if you need to restore the primary archive from backup.
