Just got a free copy of C1 LE when I bought a 2GB Sandisk Extreme III card.  Really excited about trying it out, but for the life of me can't pin down how to even start getting files in.  The manual talks about Sessions.  I don't think LE offers multiple sessions, only the Pro does.  Is this correct?  Bottomline, I can't figure out how to set up a workflow.

I download my CF card into a Working folder (as per Peter's workflow using II).  What I want to do is reference files from my Working folder.  Do the processing work, then output the processesed files again to somewhere within my Working folder for eventual archiving into my DRV buckets.  Alternatively, there will be times where I want to work of an archived RAW_XXX folder and just reference from there.  I really don't want to do any archiving/cataloguing within C1 -- just need to use it as a processor.

Any recommendations on a workflow?

Additionally, I have some random questions that I hope exerienced C1 users can help me with:

1. There is a browser in the lower pane of the Organize panel/tool.  Can I just work from there?  Or do I have to drag it to the pane above (Favorites pane?)
2.  In the top pane of the Organize panel, there are a Captures, Processed and Trash folders.  But below that, there are the same set of folders.  I'm not sure about the difference.
3. It says in the manual, that you can move the files to the Favorites pane, then if you choose delete the files from the orginal location to save disk space.  Does this mean that it will be housed in C1's Captures folder?  If so, since I don't have Sessions, how will it be organized there?

I have much more questions, but maybe I'll stop here and re-group so I can ask more pointed/intelligent questions.  Hoping for help form the epxeriences users, because my limited abilities really can't figure it out from the manual.  (I hope that it is something very simple than I'm missing.)

Thanks!

Hi akasocrates,

iView have a Solution Guide for MediaPro and Capture One:

www.iview-multimedia.com/downloads/guides.php

Are you on Mac or PC? One problem with describing the C1 workflow is they are so different on each platform. C1 does make very nice, film-like conversions. You can nominate your capture and process folders. C1 is not intuitive at first but once you learn the keyboard shortcuts it flies.

Phase One have finally shown a demo of C1 using DNG which raises it several notches for DAM. C1 LE will be the first to have it Q1 2007 and I hope Phase One has full DNG support. I've been told it will both read and write DNG files.

Solely from a RAW conversion point of view C1 and Bibble walk all over every other RAW workflow. IMHO Smiley.

Robert, thanks for the reply.  I am on a Mac 10.4.6.

I read the guide on the iView site.  Unfortunately, it's written for the PRO version.   Unfortunately, I still do not know how to create a Session.

When you say, you can nominate your Capture and Process folders...what is the significance of assigning a Captures folder?  Via the browser in the Organize panel, I was able to drag my Working folder to the Favorites panel.  What is the difference in between these two approaches?  I can see why you would assign a Process folder though.  That would be the landing zone for the processed images.

Finally, I still don't understand why there are two sets of Captures and Processed folder in the Organize panel.  Any help is much much appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi,

I still do not know how to create a Session.

AFAIK the LE version doesn't have a create session option but is promised for v4 due Q1 2007. You need to make your own session by browsing the folder containing the images.

what is the significance of assigning a Captures folder?

A Favorite is just an alias to the folder. Use whatever method works best for you. It is worth reading the user manual as it explains the Phase One concept of Sessions. Personally I only use the file browser. The PDF user guides are available from Phase One:

www.phaseone.com/Global/documentation/Documentation/Documentation_CO.aspx

I still don't understand why there are two sets of Captures and Processed folder in the Organize panel.

The middle set of folders should mirror the file browser which can be hidden.

I'll try not to turn Peter's forums into a Phase One support group Smiley. Phase One have a good forum of their own:

Thanks, Robert.  Much appreciated.

I actually finally got a response to my posts at the Phaseone forums.  Their pdf manual is very confusing, because it is written for the Pro version and they don't explicitly say this.  Moreover, their tech support person gave me a process to follow, only to say that it was for the Windows only version (in spite of my stating that I was on a Mac).  They finally confirmed this in one of my posts.  Also, apprently the Mac LE version does not have sessions.

Net, I spent all this time reading the manual and reading thread after thread, only to realize that I was on a wild goose chase.  I like the conversions, but wish they'd be more thorough in their communication.

Agreed, this is not a Phaseone forum.  Thanks again for the assitance.
