"Hot off the Press" copies of Peter's new training video - The DAM Book Workflow  are now being shipped.  The UPS driver delivered them this am and all pre-orders have been shipped.

For those of you attending PhotoPlus Expo in NYC this week, Peter will have copies on hand - can't process the credit card on his person (yet), but he can accept cash and checks.

You can see the outline for the training session (about 4 hours worth of detailed, step-by-step instruction) at http://www.damuseful.com/pages/damworkflow.html.

Indeed, I asked four days ago about a quote (?) for international shipment, but didn't get any answer until now...

Let's hope that the shipment of the discs will be easier and quicker...

Where are the International details posted?
I have tried iViewMedia Pro, and the trial has expired. I'm going to use these CD's as a further tool to decide if it is needed in my workflow, or what I'm missing.

Dominique, We didn't want to give international shipping quotes until we had them in hand, which happened yesterday.
I'll get Alyson to post shipping charges to various countries here.

Dominique,

Shipping to the UK will be US$10.50. It will ship via United States Postal Service and should take 4 to 6 days to arrive.  Currently, once I receive an order I supply an additional invoice to cover the international shipping.  My plan is to better automate this for international orders, but right now, I'm pleased to get the CD's out even if it's not the most efficient  Smiley.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

When I try to order via the DAM Useful Store (and with Paypal), there's no possibility to change the shipping cost; it stays on $3.00
How should i proceed ?

I went right through to the end of the process, and completed the process, so I now owe oyu more money. what do i do?
If you are able to take credit cards I could send a provate email with the details.
I could buy a Rank and file, but you not ship it? I will probably be buying one after watching the CD's anyway, so I could click 2 and receive 1.

Alyson will send you a separate communication as to how to pay the extra shipping.

Very shortly, we will have a button set up for international purchases, so that it is as simple as buying for domestic delivery.

Sorry for the delay.

International shipping for the CD works the same way it has for The DAM  Book:

Once an order is placed, I send an email to the purchaser asking exactly how they'd like the book shipped (Global Priority vs Express, Air Letter vs. Parcel) along with the prices and expected delivery times.

After I know the shipping preferences, I send an invoice for the necessary additional postage.  Once I receive notification of the additional postage via PayPal, I generate the fulfillment paperwork (including customs) and then trot off to the Post Office with the goods.

To date, I don't send a notification of the actual ship date. I am usually able to get the book within 12 hours of receiving the final payment.

So far, across all our shipping, only one book hasn't arrived successfully. Somewhere, there's a very well organized postal worker looking at his pictures right now.

In the near future, expect to see international options on the purchase pages. This will streamline your experience as well as reduce the manual aspects of international shipping (reduce "user error" on my part!)

Thanks for your continued interest and support in all things DAM.

I was excited the hear about the DVDs and immediately went to the order page. And then I saw the price! It's probably none of my business how you price your products and services, but I just have to ask how a 300 page book can sell for $35, but two disks that must cover a small portion of the info in the book (and which can be endlessly reproduced at minimal cost compared to printing books) can cost almost three times as much. I live in Canada and once I factor in shipping and exchange it would probably cost me about $150.

Andrew,
The price is set according to considerations of value to the end user and how competitive products are priced.  Check out Total Training or Lynda.com, or any of the others, and you'll see that the price is competitive.

Yes, the book is a good deal.  Such a good deal that I lost half a year's pay to write it. Unless someone is willing to step up and start paying my mortgage, some day I'll actually need to *make* money on all this work. ;-)

As to what is covered in the movies, it shows how to use iView MediaPro, and integrate it with Bridge/ACR and Photoshop.  80% of it is not covered in the book, since the book is not an iView book.

What it mostly covers is how to pull the levers in iView to do the tasks that you need to in order to archive, organize, proof and validate your photos.

I'm sure we'll see here how valuable a tool the videos turn out to be.

I just recently purchased Deke McClelland's Advnaced Photoshop CS2 CD from Total Training for $150 for 8 hours of training.  Given that DAM is a much smaller market than Photoshop, I think $100 a copy is a very fair price.   It's truly a small price to pay for the potential return on one's investment.  If there's one thing I've learned about this field it's that it can literally cost a fortune to persue it, with no real guarantee of success.  The general public really has no inkling of an idea of the breadth of knowledge required to be a successful commercial photographer; especially in this new age of digital.  That's why it's important that we stand together and support one another for a common cause... the survival and success of the freelance photographer in this new online age of Royalty Free and $1 stock images.
