Hey Peter,

Just tried opening the training CD's and can't get them to run.  I get your introductory page and click on "Start Watching Movies".  I then get the menu of movies.

However, when I choose a movie, I get a MSIE message "Click to run Active X control on this webpage"  I have no option but to click on this and when I do, I get your first screenshot as if the movie is about to begin.

But nothing happens beyond this screenshot.

Tried different movies on both discs with the same result.  I'm running Quicktime 7.0.4 on WindowsXP.

Any ideas?

thanks,
rob

Rob,
The current version os 7.1.3.  I believe that your copy of iView will also want you to have the latest version of Quicktime.  I think we put a link on the disk to get the current version, but I don't have a copy here with me at the moment.

Rob -

What browser are you using to view the HTML pages? If it's IE and you're having problems, please try Firefox. Also, I think Peter's wrong about the version of QuickTime. The Mac and Windows version numbers are never in sync for QuickTime. QuickTime 7.1 is the newest for Windows. You can download and install it here.
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime71forwindows.html

Installing a new version of QuickTime might solve the issue, as this might correct the Active X control for QuickTime, which you might be missing. Though I'm no expert on this type of error on Windows.

Last, but not least. If you are still have problems running the movies in a browser...
You can create an iView catalog and import the movies.

1. File > Import from Files and Folders.
Choose the folder: Disk A or B > Content > Movies
Sort by File Name. And the movies should be in the correct order.
2. Move these two movies to the top. a_bridge_prefs, b_iview_prefs
You should begin with these, as they cover setup and preferences.
3. Double-click on any movie to view in Media View. Press spacebar to start/stop.

Shayne,
Hmm... I got that information from this page:

Rob, sorry about the glitch.  We'll get it worked out ASAP.

Peter,

Updated to Quicktime 7.1.3 and movies run fine.  The CD box says "requires Quick Time 6+" so I thought I was cool with my older version.  I'm one of those people who always hesitates updating software for fear of something botching up but this one was no problem.

Shayne,  thanks for your advice also.  I will likely dump IE and replace it with Firefox.  I just started using Firefox's companion email client program, Thunderbird, and am thrilled by its most excellent design.

Thanks again for the speedy responses,
rob

I copied the DVD's to one of my harddrives, created a new iView catalog called The DAM Workflow, set the thumbnails to 640, and imported the movies.  I created three catalog sets called Preferences, Workflow1, and Workflow2.  I then put my DVD's away.  iView works great for movie watching.

Dan,
You're right, this is a great way to do it.  We may ship future versions with an iView catalog as a second interface.

Peter -

Wow. Learn something everyday. Didn't realize they had sync'd up the version numbers for cross-platform. It wasn't that long ago that we had problems in iView relating to various versions of QuickTime and the version numbers were never the same.

Rob -

The version of QuickTime wasn't the issue. Your QuickTime 6 would have played the movies just fine. It was that a newer version of IE probably needed a new QuickTime component in order to render the movies in a browser. When you upgraded, QuickTime probably installed the proper component for IE.
