R&F Issue with Canon 20D CR2 Files
«

Peter - When I try to run R&F against my CR2 files the script says that it will update the XMP files and starts to process the first file and then it hangs. I have to use Task Manager to end the Bridge program to get out of this situation. The end result is a trashed XMP file for the first image. The script works just fine on DNG and JPEG files. Has anyone else reported this issue? I'm running WIN XP Pro.

Are you running Bridge 1.0.3?
Could the XMP file be locked or have a permissions problem?
You get through the dialog box and then it hangs?
What settings are you using?

Yes, 1.0.3.106 build 99489

I don't believe so. After the first time it happened, I tried isolating the issue and rebooted my machine more than once. I also have Administrator rights on the machine so I don't think there's a permissions issue, although anything's possible with Windows.

Yes. The log file says it's starting to process the first file and then it hangs.

The same settings you're using in figure 6-51 with the exception of iView Compatibility - couldn't see much point in that one since V3 synchs the star ratings. Let me know if I'm missing something with this.

Apparently not.... The images that I had problems with were all from the same folder - I was trying to organize my older RAW images . It was the first folder of CR2 files I ran the script on and, once I had the issue on several of the files, I found that the script worked fine on DNG files so that was the route I took on the next several folders. I just ran the script on another folder of CR2 files, since I deleted the ones I had issues with after I converted them to DNG and moved them to the archive, and lo and behold, this folder had no issues.
Who knows why those images had issues, but I'm glad that things seem to be working ok now. Sorry to send you on a wild goose chase here; you're busy enough.

Rick,
No problem, glad it's working. If you run into the problem again, let me know.

P.S. - Is there any value in checking off the iView Compatibility now that iView synchs with Bridge's star ratings? Also, in your book you mention using labels 1 through 5 to replicate the star ratings. Will you still do this with V3?
P.P.S. - Happy New Year!

I am still using the iView compatibility. For the moment, I still have my labels 1-5 replicate the stars in Bridge, even though iView now sees the stars. I find the color coding of labels to be an easy way to indicate status in large groups of files.

I'm still confused as to what the iView Compatibility actually does for you. I know that the script puts the star rating into the IPTC Urgency field, but what do you do with it after that?

That's all it does.
I have to do an extra step to get the Bridge Label into the iView Label (open images in iView, select all with PK Label Outtakes, set iView label to Outtakes).
I'm just used to looking at the labels as a value indicator. I find the color to be an easier way to quickly see the value status (number of stars, or outtakes or trashme designation.)

How do you get iView to sync with Bridge's star ratings. That doesn't seem to be working for me. Thanks.

Dan - I don't believe there is anything that needs to be done or set in order for iView to display them. So, you're saying that you set the ratings in Bridge and import the images into iView and the star ratings don't display?

Rick,
I'm new to iView. Haven't learned everything about it yet. Been to busy learning The DAM Book
.
I think you may have just answered my question though. The images I was testing with are already imported into iView. Maybe that's the problem. Once they are imported, changing the ratings in Bridge doesn't cause a corresponding change in iView. However, I did tell iView to update that folder, but it still didn't pick up the ratings changes. Thanks.
