Peter,

I was just wondering if you save your derivatives directly into your derivative archive after creating them in PS, or do you maintain three copies of those as well?  In otherwords, do you use a "Transferred to Archive" folder for your master derivatives like you do for your DNG's.  Thanks.

Derivatives get treated just like RAW files in many ways, except that they branch off to a parallel structure.

I have a working files folder for derivatives, and they get automatic nightly backup to a network drive, and weekly automatic backup to the revolving offsite drive.  As you can see, there are times when there are only two copies of these files.  I'm a little bit less concerned because losing these files would not be the same level of tragedy as losing a lot of RAW files. When I spend an entire day making Derivative files, I will sometimes force a backup onto the weekly so that I have them in three places.

I don't have to clean out the derivative files working folder as often, because it is a much smaller Data set, and does not fill up as fast.

Once completed, they go into the Derivative File bucket structure, and get backed up to one other drive and DVD.

Clear?

Peter
