I’m new to IFC and Macs (not photography, just bad at it). I’m trying to use IFC to rename, backup and add a metadata template.  I dumped 359 files from the CF card (Raw from Canon 5d) to a folder on my desktop. I ran the script saving the renamed files to an external Lacie portable drive and the backup to the internal drive.

The script has been running for 21 hours! I can’t think this is normal. Any suggestions, do I need to set my Mac up differently?

The first time I used IFC I had over 300 JPG files and the script worked, took over night but it did everything it was told to do. At that time the MacBook had the standard 512 memory in it.

Any help will be appreciated!!

What you are seeing is not normal.  In any case, I suggest using ImageIngester now.

Peter Thanks for the response.

Is it normal for IFC to take 23 hours to process 359 RAW files form a 5d?

I did switch to ImageIngester, much faster. Now the problem is that it (ImageIngester) over wrote  (or blanked out) the camera data EXIF info. I do not see an option under preferences to “append” or “over write” metadata information like IFC has. It appears that ImageIngester overwrite it.

What am I missing? Huh

Thanks.

Delete the XMP files to get the EXIF back. I don't remember if that's a known problem, but you can check the ImageIngester forum.  Post issues there.

Are you using Pro?  That's the one I use.  Practice first on practice files.  I have, in fact, put it into real service, as of a month ago. It has changed my life.

Peter,

Yes I have been looking at the ImageIngester forum trying to get up to speed.

I’m not using Pro as we (my daughter and I) are working on separate platforms. She on a Mac me on a PC (like life isn’t tough enough).

If I can’t find the solution already posted then I’ll see what that forum has to offer.

Thanks for the great book, I’ve been trying to undo years of bad habits and adopt your workflow.!
