When I "Import From Camera" and the files are Jpegs I get them duplicated.  On the camera card they have the file extension JPE (I don't know why - they used to be jpg)  When importing and renaming I get the message there are duplicate files.  When I continue I end up with duplicate files (JPE and jpe)  The files are not duplicated on the camera card.  Any help appreciated.  Obviously I don't understand something about file extensions!  PSCS2 and XP

Are they being written to the card with the extension JPE?  Hmm, that's strange.  What kind of camera?  Is there a setting in the camera for file extension?

Yes they are being written to the card from the camera with JPE extension.  Camera Minolta Dynax (Maxxum) 7D. The JPE extension happens when selecting embedded adobe RGB color mode.  When using natural sRGB the extension is JPG.  The JPE files come with a THM file also.

Sue,
I've never seen that, but a quick Google search shows it to be a valid extension for a JPEG file.  I assume that this never came up in testing Import From Camera, and that's why you are seeing the odd behavior.

Can you give ImageIngester a try (Pro version if you are on Mac), and see if it works for you.  It's what I am now using.

Thanks for your response.  One thing I have noticed - this phenomenon happens only if I have deleted the photos and then re-imported.
On another problem - some of the thumbnails in Bridge don't appear or only appear as smaller size - until I open them in PS and then they appear in Bridge.

Will try imageingeste.  Apart from all this it was great to discover this site as I have the DAM book.

Thanks

Sue
