Hello :  I have many unrated and uncataloged images shot with a CAnon 1Ds.  It created .tif files ( not .tiff).  Canon soon dropped that format for cr2.  Although Adobe continues to support it, i would feel more comfortable conveting to dng and dumping out of canon's unsuported .tif     If you agree with this,  what is the best time after importing the images to the hard drive to convert to DNG ?  Right after downloading to the computer?  Or after applying ACR global defaults, renaming files, applying bulk metadata  , rating and labeling and running RAnk and File?   Or at any other time?  Thanks for all the help.  Amada

Amada,
If your shoot was done in changing light (and therefore each image might want individual correction), I would rename, add Bulk Metadata, rate, make Camera Raw adjustments, Rannk ad File, then convert to DNG.

For images where the entire shoot can get the same adjustment (or only need the ACR defaults to be applied to the files), I would rename, add bulk metadata, do the group adjustment, and then convert to DNG.  THen you can do all your rating in iView, which I think is a better tool for image evaluation in many ways.

The essential difference between the two is that individual adjustments of images take time, and you should rate these first, so that you use your rating time efficiently.
