1  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / Hierarchical Keywords on: May 14, 2009, 07:52:55 AM
Is there a particular reason that hierarchical keywords are not arranged alphabetically by the parent? It makes no sense to me to have to sort through keywords especially since every keyword that I ever applied in Lightroom shows up in the Hierarchical Keywords panel whether it was flat or hierarchical. If I have to sort through all of the unorganized keywords, I might as well just be sorting through the images themselves.

Can't locate a Mac version of SP2!

Try Check for Updates in the Help menu.

These concerns are very realistic if you plan on using Lightroom or Expression Media. Without an embedded composite file, Lightroom won't even let you import a file. Expression Media will show you the small thumbnail, but not a larger view. These are the only cataloging software that I own, so I don't know about others.

Whatever you have on channel 4(RGB) will work as a transparency mask. If you create a new channel, fill it with white, and move it to number 4, you won't see the transparency any more. Layer masks would have no effect on this.

You can create actions in Photoshop to batch process images. It may not be as elegant as some other applications in that it doesn't run in the background, but it is possible without spending more money and time learning a new app.

iPhoto is one of the apps that qualifies for upgrade pricing, so pretty much any Mac user qualifies. I just bought it myself. They aren't very strict in qualifying the upgrade.

...LRTransporter export plu-in in an export plug-in for Lightroom which saves a text file while exporting files (ie I think you have to export pics to get it working)

You don't have to export pics to use LRTransporter. If you access it from the Plugin Extras menu, it will only export the text.

8  Workflow Discussions / Tethered Shooting / Re: File numbering in C1Pro on: September 01, 2008, 06:06:46 PM
I deal with it by not using Capture One all that much anymore. I mostly use Lightroom now, and if I need to shoot tethered I use the EOS Utility(and I don't use that a whole lot). When I used C1, I would give the files names related to the project that I was working on. I didn't really matter to me that the image names were in sequence with other things that I had shot or not.

It's the same with my Canon. Maybe it's a setting more for Phase One backs.

You can create metadata templates which include labels and apply those to files on import into Lightroom.

Never heard that one. The world must be full of Scotts then. Cheesy

Scottish background I guess!  Wink

I don't understand what that means.

Well, that's all that I've got. I'm not really familiar with the cheaper alternatives. I have a copy of DevonThink that came with a software bundle. It's not very intuitive, and I just never could find a use for it.

Here's the upgrade info page.

It usually doesn't matter what's installed on a computer. You are paying for the license, and should be able to install it on whatever computer you want. If I had IVMP on my G4, I should be able to install the EM2 upgrade on my MBP. Sometimes companies do screwy things though. I'm sure that they must have some sort of verification process, but I don't know what it is. Maybe someone else could let you know about that. I keep thinking of getting EM2 since I would qualify for the upgrade, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

15  Software Discussions / Lightroom / Re: LR - Click on Contiguous Photos on: August 29, 2008, 10:53:58 AM
So, if you uncheck all of the photos, select the ones that you want to import, and then click the check box, it doesn't apply the check to all of the selected items? That is the way that it is supposed to work.

If all of the images are going to the same computer, then I would just download them all at once and manage them after the import.
