Peter,
I know of some IDI users who later on switched to Mac and who run IDI succesfully in virtual box; though I don't know if they're using VMware or Parallels or other virtualization software. There should be postings about this on the IDimager forum.
I'm also interested in an answer from you to Dierk's question.

I've heard that Hert is beefing up the performance even more in version 5. Anxiously awaiting news on that. Dan, I can't share any details about V5 yet, but it adds new features, has some major existing feature redesigns, more multi threading features, and much much more. Oh and you're right...it also adds some performance. Stay on the lookout for the first public beta soon. Hert

Congratulations with the second edition of your DAM book Peter. Hope that the 2.0 update will become even more popular than 1.0 already was.

General / General Discussion / Re: The blurring line between originals and derivatives: workflow implications

I don't know much about IDimager, but I took a quick look at its manual, and it appears to me that the edits would have to be made using that program's own image editor (not ACR or LR) in order to have it save the develop metadata in its catalog. Hi Arlen, That is incorrect, you can create version sets in IDimager that contain any image you like. If you create an edited version with IDimager's editor then the saved copy is automatically added to a version set. If you create a version with a 3rd party tool then you can either add the file to a version set by hand, or use the Version Detection Wizard to find derivatives based on file name conventions or metadata matching. Software Discussions / idImager / IDimager V4.1 is released

Yesterday IDimager 4.1 was released. This version is the first major upgrade for the V4 version. It offers new features like quick assign, dynamic searching, panel scripts, and improved performance. More details can be read here: http://www.idimager.com/index.php?mact=News,cntnt01,detail,0&cntnt01articleid=54&cntnt01origid=15&cntnt01returnid=32I'd also like to point out the DAM software review site damroundup.com. Andy, the site owner, does a great job on reviewing DAM software and DAM related tools. His reviews are very detailed and he takes the time to get to know the software in detail before writing his reviews. His site is fairly new and currently two DAM tools are reviewd, ACDSee Pro and IDimager Pro. Hert

This is something I often see when scripting that copyright symbol and other non-standard characters on Windows. I must admit, I've never found a good way to resolve it - just end up overtyping. John, These "odd" characters are caused by UTF encoding or Unicoding (high chance it's UTF-8), not sure which one iView uses. In your scripts, make sure that you decode the strings first to eliminate the UTF code characters. Not sure how to do that in iView's scripter though. Try searching for a method Utf8Decode or DecodeUtf8 or something similar. Hert

Hi Bill,
This is quite and old tool you are referring to. Keep that in mind when you use it and make sure that you try it on a few test images first.
