Software Discussions / Choosing Software/Other DAM Applications / Re: IDimager now dead software

There are some other issues with PhoSup, such as the lack of decent capability for uploading to 'net services, such as Flickr, SmugMug, etc. We've just started prepping to do that, so up till now that's not something that would be a big issue. For others, this was an IMMEDIATE problem ... IdImager had the tools to make custom frames for your images suited to the particular service to which you uploaded files, so it was great for those what do so. I can't imagine Hert will let this go much longer ... sales of PhoSup seem to be doing good BUT a lot of the dedicated amateurs that are (I think) the main intended clients are addicted to photo-sharing sites. That will (if not aleady) become a hot-button updating issue. This is incorrect. Photo Supreme offers the upload features to Flickr, Facebook, Zenfolio, SmugMug, etc. Those are all there and better integrated in the application. What they complained about was the fact that the WebPublisher is not in PSU. But in my vision, web publishing has no future as 99% are switching to photo sharing sites. Hert

Hi Claus,
If speed of viewing over the network is slow then that is because the network is the limiting factor. I don't expect it to be much better with any tool. You could consider using IDimager in offline mode which eliminates network access. Also, do you store the previews in SQLserver or sqlite (the default).

I should have some info shortly. I ordered an iMac and intend to run IDimager in VMWare's fusion as Dan & I discussed over on the IDimager forum. Two weeks for delivery though. Congrats with your purchase George! The iMac is a great machine. Looking forward to your results with IDI in virtualization software. Hert

General / General Discussion / Re: Working Folders, Flags...Workflow

I'm looking at possibly doing this with IDimager. With its built-in Downloader, Raw to DNG converter script, and separate customizable labeling for different stages of the workflow, I think it lends itself well to this approach. Unfortunately it doesn't yet have transfer validation, but I'm working on that ;-). Dan, what do yu mean when you say that IDimager doesn't have transfer validation? The integrated Downloader will binary compare the copied files with their original. Thanks Hert

Software Discussions / idImager / Re: SQLite dbase problem on install

Neil,
This is something that we were told about shortly after the official release. The case is that the installer allows you sto start both the application and the file monitor together but then both will start upgrading the database. We instantly fixed this by releasing a small update last night.
In your case, this is no corruption problem. Simply wait for the database upgrade from either the File Monitor or the application to finish and then reboot your computer.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Does that help?

Software Discussions / idImager / Re: keywords and labels and bears, oh my!
|

Hi rNeil, It's not as difficult as it may appear. http://wiki.idimager.com/index.php?title=Getting_StartedCatalog labels are not exactly the same as metadata keywords. IDI separated these two because metadata keywords are simple flat lists (no hierarchy), meaning you'd be quite limited in organizing keywords. Catalog labels are more flexible and the good part is that you can keep catalog labels and metadata keywords in sync. I highly recommend that you use catalog labels for keywording.
By assigning catalog labels to your images you are in fact adding keywords, but while a keywords is only a "string" without additional intelligence, catalog labels are more. For instance you can tell IDimager to keep a catalog label private and in that case the catalog is *not* written to the keywords while you have it available in your catalog. This way you will be able to search on it while at the same time you are guaranteed that this info is not sent out to your customers. Another feature in IDimager allows you to "map" a keyword to an image detail field. For instance you have a catalog label called "San Francisco" then you are able to map this catalog label to the City field on the Image Content tab of the Image Details (alt+enter). Another extra is that for each catalog label you can tell IDimager that when you assign a label that it should also assign all the parent catalog labels. For instance; you have a label hierarchy "Places -> USA -> California -> San Francisco". Then when you assign the label "San Francisco", IDimager will automatically assign "California" and "USA"... and if these parents are also mapped to fields these will also be filled on syncing the image. One more thing; you can also assign a GEO location to a catalog label. Then when yousync the image, IDimager will automatically GEO tag the image. For instance; you have a catalog label "Statue of Liberty". This is a "fixed place" and so youcould add a GEO location to it. Then as you assign the label your images is also GEO tagged.

Software Discussions / idImager / Re: Comparison of IDimager v4 to EM2

One thing it doesn't do though that EM does is highlight the fields contained in the selected images. Hi Dan, You can read the in/excluded items in the title of the Collection Viewer (in other words; directly above the thumbs) Does that help? Hert
