1  General / General Discussion / Archive Creator 3.56- Does it work on windows 7 on: May 19, 2010, 10:03:23 AM
My AC is failing to pick up any DVD writers on my win7 PC. ONe is  a Sata drive and the other USB writers. Is there a hardware fix or is AC limited to Pata drives?

Where can I get RS?
5  General / General Discussion / Problem getting Archive Creator to take semi full buckets into account on: October 28, 2009, 08:06:25 AM
I have a series of Directories

RawBu001

up to

RawBlu023

All or full except RawBlu23 which is partially full.

So Say I have 100Gigs worth of Raw files to add.

I set AC3.57 to move the data to folders called RAWBlu and set the index to 023

When I hit Processit reports that it will move 23Gigs into RawBlu023 and that there used to be a folder their alreaduy.

From this I am guessing it is about to overwrite thios folder which I dont want.

OKay my Buckets have been created

22.4 MB of DNG in each

Some of the DNGs dont have full size previews but many do.

Is there a way to ask DNG converter to only work on those that have mid or low res previews or is it a case that tif I ask it to process all 1700 files in a bucket that the high res ones wont casuse any significant processing load?

Between it being a beta and this versions option ( what is that?) can playing around with it on my archive files acually damage my dngs?

HI Guys,

as this is about Rapid snapper I will avoid a new tread.

Peter did I read in the book it is bundled with Rank and file or Rapid Fixer Rather. Have I then got authority to use Rapid Snapper and where can I get my hands on it.- Thank you for all your fantastic help.

I have 4 terrabyte drives and 6 750 gig drives.

Would using the Terrabyte drives as live Primaries make sense and having a policy to keep the data on them below 750 to allow for simple BU.

Would the 250 Gig overhead allow for better disk defragmentation and avoid disk full if ever I need to bring in very large chunks of data temporaryily?

I just noticed in PM under preferences you can have extensions as caps or lowercase.

I prefer how lower looks and thinnk DNG converter always usess lower.

Is lower the best way to go all things considered. MAC/PC divide and all that also to be considered?

11  General / General Discussion / Summary of my current workflow -Advice/Reassurance needed on: October 20, 2009, 06:21:25 AM
After considering splitting my raw files into Commisioned work and Personal work I have decided against it. It is not worth the effort and the bright line is not always bright enough. Like when a brother asks you to take a frew family portraits. No way of know ing if I will be paid and no contract there. So while the work was split into tear folders

for each type

2005
2006
2007

and files were named

{year2}{month0}{day0}_{hour24}{min}{sec}

I am applying the keyword Commision or Personal and mixing the whole lot up as one source.

Buckets

I have a bit of a mess with orphaned images on DVD disks so files may be added to the raw cataologues from several years so I am thinking of using the year in the prescript for bucket names so the order of the buckets is albhbetical even if I add a bunch of discovered files from optical disk

SO I will have

BR-RAW-07-01
BR-RAW-07-02

BR-RAW-08-01
etc

Lets say for now year 2007 ended in BR-RAW-07-12

Then if I discover say 60 Gigabytes of files I add them to 12,13,14 and replace and add discs 12,13,14 respectively.

A little less efficient but acceptable.

PLease tell me if I am planning it badly.

Next renaming.

I have folders with 95% of files as {year2}{month0}{day0}_{hour24}{min}{sec}

I know Photomechanic very well and like that it changes the actual files and leaves nothing undone but is doing a full rename across the folder very inefficient and risky as I am accessing files that don't need to be touched?

Maybe temporary LR catalogs would be a better way to go.

I will have lots to add but in order to get the ball rolling let me post this as is.

12  General / GPS/ Geotagging / Re: Cannot Import GPS Data with ImageIngesterPro on: October 20, 2009, 05:55:20 AM
This is of great interest to me as any attepmt I made to introduce GPS to workflow failed. As many of us just juggle so many tasks that are queing up for workflow and business introductoin I assumed it was my failure to follow correct steps and it got bumped to back of the queue.

As I do use Photomechanic for a rough culling of the rubbish would PM be a perfect place to get the GPS log file into the files?

Hi David,

I am loving your codec on Vista 64 bit. You'll see a new client once the trial expires. Well done. Is it good on Win 7? Save me testing.

14  General / General Discussion / Re: Missing Folder- based on practices before getting Peters second book on: October 13, 2009, 01:27:09 AM
Well I am very glad to say I have my images back. Actually they were always at large. The camera was one year out in its time stamp and I left the images in a spuriosly placed folder called temp.

So my advanced search baased on creation date missed them.

Sorry Peter. As you guessed I mixed up my treads. Lie you say in your book we go nuts when data is lost!!
