1  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / Re: Problems Syncing Annotations in EM2 (Mac Snow Leopard) on: July 05, 2011, 03:37:45 PM
I've never been brave enough to sync to more than about 500 images at any one time. Afraid of what would happen if a crash happened in the middle of the operation.
So for me, the "batches of 100 or whatever" is as far as I've gotten.

2  Software Discussions / Lightroom / Date Time renaming fussiness on: July 05, 2011, 03:34:00 PM

I've been renaming my images in Lightroom with Date and Time, as in YYYY-MM-DD-hh-mm-ss.
BUT, my shutter release mode is "continuous", so it's possible to have the exact same time down to the second.

Lightroom deals with this by adding a -1 to the name.

Does anyone have their own way of handling this? Maybe having a "fraction" of a second is too fussy...

Also, it's hard to read the caption/descriptions on the mid gray background.

... it's progress for those who don't want to sync metadata into the raw files themselves and who use editing programs which handle sidecars...

Are you guys saying that MediaPro won't sync annotations directly to the image files? It's sidecar only? Or are you saying the sidecar feature is just "better" now?

5  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / Re: Phase One buys Expression Media - updated on: May 28, 2010, 07:12:58 AM
Well, we should all go the the PhaseOne forums to let 'em know:
http://forum.phaseone.com/En/viewforum.php?f=36&sid=45050a07f2463755738f4b6fe8ca1e87

(I want all the formats too -- Bridge just doesn't work as well)

For the Mac version, I use this Applescript. I don't remember where it came from:

Code:
tell application "iView MediaPro"
try
set SelectedItems to selection of catalog 1
repeat with mediaItem in SelectedItems
tell mediaItem
set product to name
end tell
end repeat
on error
display dialog "Select one or more media items and try again" buttons "OK" default button 1
end try
end tell
beep 1

(change the application name to "Expression Media 2" is you're using that version)

I have Expression. By upgrade I guess I meant "update". Modernization. Is Yan still involved at all I wonder?

I wonder if iView finally get upgraded past 2007? It's still the best dam-er out there.

9  General / General Discussion / usa in country field on: January 13, 2010, 02:07:09 PM
Do you (American types) use "United States" or "USA" in your iptc country filed? I just noticed I've used both over the years which confuses searches.

Thanks -- a pretty nice one-stop site for digital imaging workflows and techniques.

11  Software Discussions / Lightroom / HAL 9000 says "Save Metadata", but it IS saved on: October 17, 2009, 08:05:44 AM
Why is it that no matter how many times I "save" metadata to an image (dng), it still says it has "...changed in Lightroom. Save to disk?" Not all images, just a few (the same ones over and over. And over).

In a recent case, I have 27 dngs that I hit with the same Develop settings and Keywords. The same 5 keep telling me to save. Opening any of the 27 in iView shows the keywords OK, exporting any to jpgs all look OK, so I think the info IS saved.

Is there a secret metadata category I don't know about?

[li]Smart Collection and Filter criteria fail to include all fields in the database. Users should be able to target any individual IPTC or EXIF field or value of any Develop slider.[/li]
[li]List view[/li]
Yeah!

A bio on Microsoft? Looks like Peter uses a "Dell XPS M1210 Laptop".

15  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / Re: Map custom fields to specific IPTC fields on: August 07, 2009, 06:33:08 PM
Since 2006 or so I used a set of scripts Daniel Robillard made for iView 3x (he posted in their forums in the good old days). It includes something called "Transfer Annotations", which can move/copy entries from just about any iptc field to another. The scripts are in French, so that took me a few minutes to figure out. They somehow work in ExpressionMedia, too (for me anyway).

http://iview.free.fr/scripts_iview.html

Look for "Transfert d'Annotations | Annotations Transfer" about a quarter of the way down.
