I had the same thing happen to me - It all came down to a file that had a bad file name starting with #, not sure how that happen, but on your desktop CK your file names & make sure there are no weird names at the beginning, middle or end....so in other words no $#@! etc... anywhere in the name, it WILL cause a corrupted catalog.

Software Discussions / Lightroom / ACR Presets work in Light Room!!!

This is great! I think ACR is the best raw processors on the market (for me, my camera, my style of shooting) - One of the biggest features ACR has it allows you to clip the highlights to lets say: 253 (instead of 255 default) & the shadows to 03 instead of "0" & save this as a "Preset"
Well Light Room reads this ACR Preset & applies it to the RAW images. Perfect! Applies the ACR "03-253" preset then I can adjust as necessary in Develop, Open the images in Photoshop & the shadows & highlights are already set! : )

General / General Discussion / HD Raw Work Flow - any help or comments?
|

Any comments would be appreciated on this workflow
1. import using Photo Mechanic - importing two copies on two HDs - HD1 & HD2 - renaming, NOT adding metadata 2. On one HD1 - add metadata, keywords etc... to the RAWS using Photo Mechanic. Embedding Metadata. No sidecars. 3. Edit & Process out the keeper images using my favorite processor 4. Archive the Master images & the RAW images from HD1 - using my favorite database software 5. Trash the RAWS from HD2 - the RAWS have already been processed form HD1 - no corrupted files there 6. Backup, Backup & Backup
From item 5. Is there a real reason the keep the ogrinial RAWS on HD2? I already have backups on HD1.
Thanks ~ cole
PS: Congrats Peter on Y2!

General / General Discussion / Re: Metadata - Safe for RAWS

Thanks Peter - I'm sure Marc has a great product & is great for this forum as well as others, thanks Marc for your reply.
Right now I am using Photo Mechanic - it embeds right into the file either during import or after importing. No sidecar files. I guess "for me" after importing 1000s of images with "no" metadata corruption problems is it worth the trouble to have two sets of RAW images to manage - one with metadata & the other untouched.
PM does have a nice feature where you can import & it saves two copies to seprate HDs - I'll download Imageingester & try it out.

General / General Discussion / Metadata - Safe for RAWS

Thanks Peter for making great DAM book - I'm new to this fourm so I do not know if this is a tired old topic -
When I import my RAWS onto my hard drive I rename the RAW images & then add Metadata, keywords etc.. then I make a backup - is this safe? Will adding the metadata to the RAWS corrupt the files? I have been doing this for a while now (thousands of images) with no ill effect, I know in Peter's book he says it "might" happen - any voices out there?
(Converting to DNG is no good for me - I use a P30 & Phase software currentlly does not support DNG)
thanks ~ cole
