1  Software Discussions / Choosing Software/Other DAM Applications / IMatch 5 - released on: June 07, 2014, 12:10:33 AM
Finally IMatch 5 is released. After stopping support for IDimager I was looking for another software and test IMatch 5 beta . For me this is one of the most sophisticated and smart software. I am using it not only as a Photo-DAM-Software. I uses instead of Windows-Explorer, Music-DAM-Software.

If other people are still searching a DAM-Software; Trial-Version can be downloaded: http://www.photools.com

2  Software Discussions / Choosing Software/Other DAM Applications / Re: LR, MediaPro, EM - which is currently recommended? on: November 18, 2012, 02:36:27 AM
The DAM-Software makes me sick. No solutions fits all. The one DAM-Software is in one point perfect, but looses completely in another point.

My experience.
+ that is the point, why I choose this software
- this is the point, I am leafing it.

Microsoft Expression 2 / Media Pro:
+ At least DAM-Software
- to often unstable
- the written hierarchical keywords can't be read from some other softwares (like idimager)

IDimager 5 Pro
+ can a lot
+ "Set" of hierarchical keywords
+ Export hierarchical keywords also in IPTC and Exif (I can choose if UTF-8, Ansii)!!
- no drag and drop to QuarkXpress (very important for me)
- no IPTC:codedcharacterset=utf8 was been written. If I am importing the IPTC to others software, there are mismatch and a lot of keywords are shown wrong.
- bugs AND death product

Photo Supreme
+ "Set" of hierarchical keywords
+ Export hierarchical keywords also in IPTC and Exif...
- ... but only in Ansii?
- no drag and drop to QuarkXpress (very important for me)
- no IPTC:codedcharacterset=utf8 was been written. If I am importing the IPTC to others software, there are mismatch and a lot of keywords are shown wrong.
- shiny GUI
- no multi-monitor-support

Daminion
+ can import terrible huge folders with pdf/doc/tiff/gif/jpg/.... without hanging or crushing down (the only software, which solved this yet) !!!!
+ I like the gui
+ drag & drop to QuarkXpress
+ Export hierarchical keywords also in IPTC and Exif...
- ... but only in ANSI ?
- in the development (no filemanager now, but it will come)

iMatch 3.6
+ Powerful
- an complicated
- didn't write the hierarchical keywords in IPTC/Exif; Maybe there a scripts there, but I am not a friend of scripts, sorry about that.

iMatch 5
-  :Smiley Yeah, maybe, on day..... But the amount of my images are increasing every day.

Currently I working with IDimager 5 Pro for my privat images and Daminion for my work-folders.
3  Software Discussions / Choosing Software/Other DAM Applications / DAM - Software with hierarchical keywords and file-explorer on: March 23, 2012, 10:16:01 AM
Hello,

first of all, sorry for my bad english.

I'm looking for a stable offline-working DAM-Software with the possibility of more catalogs and an file explorer to transfer photos from one direction to another.

I currently use: iDimager Pro and Phase Ones Media Pro.

iDimager is not bad, but have some really disturbing issues. My naturephotos have hierarchical categories of their system.
For example:
Animals --> Arthropoda --> Chelicerata --> .... --> Pisaura mirabilis.

Every now and than the software change the preference and instead of making one category/keyword (Animals --> Arthropoda --> Chelicerata --> .... --> Pisaura mirabilis), it write ever keyword in the file (Animals, Animals --> Arthropoda, ....). Instead of one keyword I have now 10 or more keywords in one file. To undo all of this stuffs takes to much time.  Angry

Media Pro
Faster than iDimager, but the way, it write the hierarchical keywords can not exported. In iDimager i can choose, in which way it can write this hierarchical structure (for example: | ).

Is there software which....
doesn't cost more than 300
  • is stable
  • could handle a 100 000 files
  • hierarchical keywords, which can exchanged to other software/programmes
  • fast
  • file-explorer to move the files in different directories
  • calendar-function
  • easy tagging like iDimager
  • maybe upload function for facebook
?

I try currently Daminion, but this is still beta and haven't a file explorer.

Tanks in advance

Finally I hope, there will be a standard. In IDimager there is a possibility to choose the way to read and write the hierarchical structure.

The problem is, that even adobes bridge cs3 can't read the hierarchical structure in a right way. But I've got an answer by phase one support team:

Looking at the file itself it seems as though Media Pro is reading the file as the XMP standard allows, as we can see a similiar conflict when looking at the XMP editor in Photoshop. Regardless I will suggest we look into proper accomodation for this type of Keywording with a future release.
5  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / Hierarchical keywords exchange between softwares on: May 16, 2011, 06:53:39 AM
Hello,

I already used different DAM-Software (ACDSee Pro 2 --> Expression Media 2 --> Idimager 5 (currently main DAM-Software). Now I trying Media Pro 1 again.

When I used Expression Media an changed to IDimager 5, all my hierarchical Keywords was imported flat (just like normal keywords). I have the same problem with Media Pro 1. I search in the Internet about this problem (even in Adobe CS3 Bridge the hierarchical keywords are flat) and am I right that Media Pro didn't use the standard?

When I import files, which I cataloged (?) in Idimager, the hierarchical keywords are like they should [this program write the keywords like: animal|mammalia|cat|lion (for example)] and the keywords have in Media Pro 1 the right hierarchical keywords.

If I cataloged the files with Media Pro 1 an import it in IDimager it become flat. Is there a possibility to say MP1 to write the hierarchical keywords in a way, IDimager can understand (like: "|")?

Is there a possibility to use both software (as long as I export all hierarchical keywords directly in the file or in the XMP-Sidecard)? It would be a great advantage also for exchanging Files with other persons.

Thank you in advance and sorry for my bad English.
