91  DAM Stuff / Hardware Discussions / Re: JBOD recommendations? on: March 24, 2006, 09:20:28 AM
Like the original poster in this topic I'm finding the variety multi-drive external enclosures quite confusing.

This one at the url below was recommended earlier and I think someone purchased one.

This one uses IDE drives and is $440, but at the links below it looks like I can order a 4 drive FW case for $150 and four removable IDE tray kits for $15 each for a total of $210. If I want SATA drive kits they are $45 each for a total of $330.

I know the more expensive one has digital thermometers, but otherwise is there any difference?

Cheers,

Andrew

P.S. If you think these are hard to find in the US, you should try finding one up here in Canada. They are not available anywhere.
92  Software Discussions / Import From Camera / Library files already exist. Overwrite? on: March 13, 2006, 01:19:08 PM
I just went to install IFC and received a message that the files AdobeLibrary1.jsx and AdobeLibrary2.jsx already exist. Is it safe to overwrite these files?

Thanks,

Andrew
93  DAM Stuff / Hardware Discussions / usb big drive boxes? on: March 13, 2006, 01:09:10 PM
I've been doing a bit of searching and I can't find any sources for big drive boxes with a USB 2.0 interface. I could use Firewire, but I'm a windows user so USB is definitely more universal and my laptop doesn't have a USB port without a PCMCIA card. I've checked the hardware sites that are linked here, but they don't seem to carry anything except single drive enclosures.

Even FW enclosures seem to be hard to come by here in Toronto, so if there are any other Canadians on these forums who have recommendations on sources for hardware please let me know.

Cheers,

Andrew
94  General / General Discussion / Re: Bucket Size in Windows on: March 10, 2006, 08:52:53 AM
I was just about to ask the same question, and after a quick search I found a few different options. Did anyone have any recommendations on the best choice to this within Windows Explorer?

Folder Size for Windows 2.2 looks pretty good, but before I start installing anything new it would be nice to know what other people are using.

Cheers,

Andrew

I'm anxiously awaiting my copy of your book from amazon, but I also prefer Capture One to Camera Raw for several different reasons. I didn't think your choice of raw conversion software would play that big of a role in your approach to DAM. Now I'm a bit concerned.

Maybe I should read the book first, but is C1 really incompatible with your workflow? I can set up Bridge to open RAW files in C1, so surely there must be ways to make it work.

Thanks,

Andrew
