I've just starting to read the new book The Dam Book 2nd Edition. I think it's defiantly worth getting. When will there be a companion DVD for the new Edition . Or on line videos? I found the last DVD helped me a lot.I would often have it playing on my lap to while I work on my desk top.

Hi Peter Thanks for responding. I mostly shoot weddings and magazine work as well as a diverse types of freelance work.
I was thinking (Every thing in Quotes would be a variable )
Wedding work : Rights granted to " Bride & Grooms name " for personal use by Lou Recine Photography. Rights are not considered transferred until payment to Lou Recine Photography has been made in full.
Magazine work: Rights granted to " Magazine Name " for use in " Issue, date, Article " by Lou Recine Photography.Rights are not considered transferred until payment to Lou Recine Photography has been made in full.
Commercial: Right granted to " Company Name " for use in " Ad Campaign " for the period of " 1 year " . Rights are not considered transferred until payment to Lou Recine Photography has been made in full.
I what to use caption maker to imbed the information on the bottom. If you or any one have some ideas or additions that would be greatly appreciated.

I have a stupid question about DNGs How can a DNG file be up to 30% smaller the original NEF and still retain the same amount of information. What am I throwing away, I just like to know before I start converting all my files.

General / General Discussion / I need some clarification on a Few of things.

Hi Peter I just want to let you know that I’ve read your book and watched your DVD and have found both to be informative and enlighten, I’m currently implementing what I have learned to my own files, but I need some clarification on a Few of things.
1. Do I need to make DNGs? 1a. Will I loose any information in the conversion.
2. With customer jobs it’s easy to name the file folder E.g. 001_Raw_Bob_and_Sue_ wedding_2007, what happens with personal work that may have a mixer of subject on it.
3. I currently have 2 external hard drives one 250 GB and one 500GB and approximately 160 Gb on my G5 tower, normally that I only keep applications and office documents on.
I was thinking of making the 500Gb for Original camera files and the 250 for Renamed and Derivatives or Burn Original camera files to DVD and keep Renamed on the 500Gb and keep the Derivatives on the 250Gb. Do you have any suggestions on the best way to use my availibe hard drive space.? Should I get a third FW Drive. Or a second internal Drive.
4. When I shoot a wedding I normally have 1500 raw files to deal with, I might edit those to 500 proofs to give to client. The problem I’m having is if I have to create 500 master files with enhancements, these files will quickly fill up my hard drives. I can’t afford to keep buying Hard Drives every time I do a couple of weddings. So I was thinking of a couple of workflows.
A.Do I process the images to proof level and do, master files only for the final picks these are the files that will end up in a book or print .
B. Or do I create the master files and then burn them to DVDs and keep them off my computer. What would be the best way to catalog these so I can easy find them later?
Thank-you for helping me with this.
