There is no doubt that IVMP has some better facilities but not THAT much better!

With Lightroom, you have to go find individual files.

LR works very similarly to IVMP - any part of the folder structure

As to the metadata creation, try to add location information to a large set of images with LR

No doubt IVMP wins here but Smart collections give you a 'dynamic collection' of any images without location etc and it is very easy to set up a custom meta preset to apply to all appropriate images.

I used IVMP for some years and work very well now without it but I do miss some facilities occasionally

Another method which seems to be in favour is to add standard keywords on import such as 'Unkeyworded' or whatever and only delete that keyword when finished completely for a given image

I also get confused between LR previews and the embedded jpeg
LR previews can be set to minimal etc either when using the import function or when synching a folder.  Those previews at minimal setting cause no problem in the develop module because the 'full file' is used there.  Minimal slows down workflow in the Library module if you need to zoom as it creates higher quality preview.  It's a matter for me of where the 'slowness' is best placed!!
The confusion (that is, it is not intuitive) for me is that Edit > Preferences > Import > 'Import DNG Creation.' needs to be set at 'full size' in order for Update dng preview and metadata to set an embedded jpeg at full size usable by other apps.  The import settings determine export!

Agree entirely - SCs and the metadata filters are great in concept; the former for dynamic and repeating searches; the latter for browsing differing fields and values but both should offer for selection EVERY field which is being searched.  Yes, give us the common fields as a drop down list in both facilities but add a MORE option to allow drill down to any searchable field.

I have had some unusual results with SCs in the past so thought I would try for your situation.
I do not use Headline at all so put in 'Hdline' in headline for one image.
Using searchable iptc contains hdline returns that one image; doesn't contain hdline returns all images less the one.
All OK so far
From hereonin, I can't help further 'cos searchable iptc also picks up, for example, Credit and Origin data such as Location etc.
Are you sure you have no entries in any other iptc field?

Yes you need to have the cursor on the image not on the image box

Left click drag to another folder works fine for me in 2.0

Am I doing something different?

I know this is not key to the thread but

Auto writing to XMP doesn't update keywords and other metadata to files.
Mine certainly auto-updates keywords but what metadata does it miss please?

Thanks for the response.  Please don't get me wrong - I really like it.  First time I used in anger, I knew the image I wanted was taken with 135mm lens.  Choosing that, only the keywords (to the right) filtered appropriately.  It's not really a problem as I have presets now set up with, for example, Lens in leftmost column which works very well

John B mentioned in another thread the metadata filters which I agree are a great improvement but wonder why they only work left to right.  If, for example, you have your dates (Heirarchical) in the first column and choose a year, each column to the right will exclude values inapplicable to that year - roger so far.  Revert to all years and choose, however, a lens and the years values remain in full i.e. not filtered to the appropriate years.  You can, then, choose a year in which that lens was not used and get a nil return.

I presume you mean a sub-folder relative to whatever folder you are exporting from.  In other words, LR automatically exports to a sub-folder of the folder currently being viewed, whatever that is.  I would love Ken to be right on this 'cos I have never found a way of doing it.

I am learning here and not really helping you!  Because all raw and dng have, de facto, an embedded jpeg, does what you are saying mean that LR is not actually importing the jpeg (you are shooting raw+jpeg) or that it is overwriting the embedded jpeg?  Sorry to take you off at a tangent!

It's certainly more powerful than any I have used and is backed up by the most reponsive of people I have come across.  Just have a look at their forum and you will quickly understand my points.

I don't have this problem 'cos I dont download with LR but could you not use the jpeg file type under metadata browser in combination with the folder you are working on?
