1  Software Discussions / Lightroom / Re: LR quit importing files on: December 01, 2012, 09:16:32 AM
SOLVED my problem. I was writing to an external HD  and it was full, but no message to that end. I had forgotten how much space was dedicated to Time Machine backup.

2  Software Discussions / Lightroom / LR quit importing files on: November 30, 2012, 08:31:43 AM
LR quit importing images made with Nikon D700 part way through a card. Just came to a sudden stop.
Won't work with a different card either.
Also tried a different reader with a card from my Canon, No Go!
Message says images were not imported because the files could not be read.
Destinations all appear OK

Any ideas please?

Thanks for your help John. Much appreciated. Too bad there wasn't a standard vocabulary across these platforms.. I dream a lot Cheesy
4  Software Discussions / Lightroom / Reseting path on: February 12, 2011, 08:26:24 AM
In EM2 I could change the location of the source image under "reset path". I can't seem to find this in LR3. Does it exist?

Just to clarify what I'm asking... I imported some images from my backup DVD's to rebuild my catalog, but forgot to copy them to the HD first, so LR sees the source as the DVD, but I want it to be the HD where I have now copied the files to.

Thanks

Hi John... I used Adobe's DNG converter. I'm new to LR, but I don''t see where there are any presets enables. It's like the little files are missing to tell the image how it is supposed to look. When my EM2 catalog corrupted and lost 2,500 images, it also said some of the metadata may be missing from the other 22,500 images that were left and I should go check each one out... yeah right! It seems like the metadata might be missing from all of them. OUCH! They come in looking fine, and then as I scroll them across the bottom of the screen they go BLAHHH. How's that for high tech terminology? Cheesy I am importing the images from the "corrupted " catalog. I think I have to bring all 55 DVD's in from their offsite storage and use them to rebuild the  LR catalog and replace the source files.

6  Software Discussions / Lightroom / Imported DNG's don't display Camera Raw adjustments on: February 08, 2011, 12:09:22 PM
Workflow:
Imported images, card to HD, opened in Bridge, renamed etc, opened in Camera RAW and created final images. Converted to DNG, imported into LR3. Images do not display in LR3 with Camera Raw manipulations and when exported as jpeg's, the they also don't have the rendered files, just a conversion of the RAW image. I think I'm missing a check the checkbox someplace???

7  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / Goodbye EM2 on: January 15, 2011, 11:45:31 AM
EM2 has just added "the last straw". I was in the process of "converting" a few images, which I have done many times. Up comes a warning that EM2 has detected a problem with the catalog and is attempting to recover it. After the dust settled, I'm informed that 2,500 images (out of 24,000) could not be recovered, and some metadata may be missing from the recovered files and I should examine each one individually., AS IF! I think I have the entire catalog on DVD's. I've been pretty diligent about creating them. All of the catalog sets have also been wiped out - no names whatsoever, but I do have the keywords still intact. Each time I access the catalog, I'm getting the same message and the same recovery process. There is a Cancel button, but it doesn't work. This is a #%#@$$#@ inexcusable disaster. Anyone else have this issue, or any thoughts as to how I might recover the entire catalog and catalog sets? Thanks

Sorry for the second posting. Seems like the server was slow, and so was my computer.

BTW, my iMac was getting super slow (half hour to boot up). I removed a nearly empty 500gb LaCie external drive and I'm back up to turbo speed again. Had trouble with this particular drive self-ejecting some months ago... it is now history!

So do I have this straight...?
If I use VM Ware's Fusion (or anything else), I have to buy some version of Windows (After my super-aggravating experience with MS/EM2 I am so loathe to give those #%&*& another penny, but if I HAVE to, I will. Can they not touch anything without screwing it up?) I have always ran only Mac software since I converted (salvation  Smiley ) four years ago. If I run Windows in some fashion, do I once again have to buy an anti-virus software? Will the digital money pit ever stop gobbling up my bank account?

Thanks everyone

12  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / Re: Workflow, Peter what are you doing now? on: July 08, 2009, 08:27:23 AM
Peter, are you using Mac or Windows in this workflow? You may recall I had a HUGE problem with ImageIngester renaming (and ultimately destroying) about four months worth of images on both the internal and external backup drives. I really want to use II, but am deathly afraid of even trying. Do you have any suggestions of a safe way to try it. I have one internal HD in my iMac and three external HD's via USB. Marc eventually said that he thought I had a conflict of software that caused the problem?Huh

thanks

13  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / EM2 asking for product key on: July 08, 2009, 08:19:00 AM
EM2 has to be the "buggiest" software I have ever used. Last night when I tried to open the catalog, I got the message "Thank you for trying out Microsoft Expression Media, your trial has expired. Please enter a product key." GRRRRRRR... I've owned the software for over a year. I call Microsoft's non-support line for Canada. "Thank you for calling Microsoft Canada... pleased to help you... IF you have a technical support account... over 300.00 Cdn per year. They don't offer free support because EM2 is regarded as a professional product. I got upset and pushed back... this was not a problem of my making... I'm not paying for support. I had to ask to speak to the supervisor before they relented and gave me a one time free support function. they actually did this on another call too when something else was their fault. PUSH THEM IF YOU NEED TO WHEN IT'S THEIR ISSUE, NOT YOURS. (Canadian support number is 1-800-936-7341) I was to get a call back from a tech support "in two hours". I waited four hours and went to bed at 12:45 AM... now it's next morning, I call back for support and "sorry, we'll have someone call ASAP" ... posting interrupted by EM2 tech calling in  Smiley Problem has been rectified. HOW... typed in the product key... WHY I had the issue... because I had to recreate my Mac user account after getting "bad" advice from my Mac support tech when installing Leopard upgrade (BTW,  once you start an upgrade - I was using the "archive and install feature" which is a VERY slow process - five hours for my computer - NEVER ABORT THE PROCESS or you're gonna be real sorry, just like the warning box says) This Microsoft techie was very knowledgeable and helpful... once I got to him. He even answered questions not pertaining to the direct issue.
All this being said, if LR comes up with a better catalog, EM2 is in big trouble, because I really like the adjustment functionality of LR2 and have to use it prior to cataloging in EM2

Cheers
Garth

Well, now it's not working.... again. And the problem travels from image to image. Click on an image and you can open it, click on another one an you can't, go back to the one that opened before and it won't open the next time. I phoned Adobe and because EM2 is a pro product, they demand $275 US to open a service account... no thanks.. it's your program and it's broke and you want me to pay for help... drop dead. Went online and they were baffled, told me to download the latest build because the previous one was seriously flawed. Microdumb should be prohibited by law from buying up software companies with good working products... you just know they're gonna break 'em. Anyway, I installed the current build two days ago and the problems seemed to go away, until today, when a different problem shows up. I import my dng files and only  a placeholder appears (no thumbnail), but if you click on the media tab the image appears. I haven't changed any preferences, still have full-size jpeg preview selected. Go figure!!!!!!!!!

I'll let you know if I get any satisfaction out of the onlne help.

So now it's working. As Dan says... it's a computer!!!!!

After I calmed down enough not to throw the box in the garbage, I rebooted and the files are now readable. AARRGGGGHHHHHHH

Thanks
