Software Discussions / iView MediaPro / general Mac/PS/iView upgrading - advice needed
|

Hi all,
I currently use (have done for several years) iView Media Pro 3 on a Mac, running on OS 10.4 (Tiger), together with Photoshop CS3. This combination has proved highly efficient and completely stable. However I do now need to upgrade Photoshop to CS5 because of improvements in Camera Raw. This in turn means that my Mac OS will have to be upgraded to Snow Leopard, which presumably means that I will have to migrate all my files from iView Media Pro 3 to Phase One Media Pro 1. Does anyone have any advice as to the best and safest way of doing this? Or about specific problems that may arise?
Thanks, Alex

DAM Stuff / DNG / updating settings and/or previews in ACR
|
on: October 21, 2008, 03:40:45 AM

After going back into Bridge and making some adjustments to the DNGs in Camera Raw, ACR takes a minute or so to 'update settings'. While it does this, is it also updating the embedded preview - or do I need to do this separately via the dropdown menu in ACR?
Thanks, Alex

Software Discussions / iView MediaPro / Re: thumbnail rebuilding query

OK, thanks. So if I use the Basic menu in ACR and go to 'update dng previews', selecting 'full size', does it just update the selected image or will it update everything in that folder? And then presumably I go over to Iview and 'rebuild item', or will it do an automatic update (folders set to update every five minutes)? Alex

Software Discussions / iView MediaPro / thumbnail rebuilding query

Having converted my nef files to dng, I import into iview in the usual way. If I subsequently go back to Bridge and make adjustments to the dng's (cropping etc) these changes do not show up in the iview catalogue, even after either rebuilding the item or deleting and re-importing it. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Alex

Software Discussions / Bridge/ Camera Raw / Open DNG without updating?
|
on: August 22, 2007, 07:01:28 AM

Is it possible to make adjustments to a DNG file and to open the image in Photoshop without updating the DNG? I often have to make what I think Peter calls 'derivative' files for delivery which require perspective correction, etc, and of course removal of the 'proof' sharpening applied initially. Updating DNGs seems to be incredibly slow at this stage. I'd be grateful if anyone knows a workaround.
Thanks, Alex

Software Discussions / Bridge/ Camera Raw / Auto tone adjustments
|

I have 'auto tone adjustments' turned on as default in my ACR preferences, which makes a good starting point when I am adjusting and correcting my NEF files. This is followed by conversion to DNG and deletion of the original NEFs. My question is: if I later go back and look at these corrected DNG's in Bridge, and if 'auto tone adjustments' is still selected, will it undo my corrections and return all my DNG's to the default position?
Thanks, Alex

Software Discussions / iView MediaPro / embedded DNG preview - file info loss
|
on: July 25, 2007, 06:38:38 AM

I add metadata to my raw files in Bridge in the usual way, and then convert to DNG. These are then catalogued in IVMP 3. When I get IView to extract the embedded preview (Action / Convert Image Files / JPEG) I notice that the info added in Bridge has disappeared from the jpeg (copyright, description etc). Does anyone know why this is, or what I am doing wrong?
Thanks, Alex
