Timothy Armes (of LR Mogrify fame) has introduced Keyboard Tamer a plugin for setting up your own keyboard shortcuts for LR3 ....

If you purchase the upgrades for PSCS5 and LR3 at the same time, there is a 30% discount on LR3 ... if that helps ...

Hopefully the last I will ever have to deal with MS.  Well done P1 - I thank you!

Thanks for the wonderful news Peter ... the future looks much better than it did yesterday ....  Smiley
6  Software Discussions / iView MediaPro / Re: Iview problems with OS snowleopard 10.6.3 on: May 06, 2010, 12:03:28 PM
I ended up moving from iVMP and upgrading EM1 (the free copy they gave to all iVMP users)  to EM2 (bought the upgrade from Amazon) for better functionality with Mac OS X 10.6 ... EM2.

So far it works fine ... but I am worried about the future of EM .....
7  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / Peter - about Expression Media on: May 06, 2010, 11:50:43 AM
I have been using iView MediaPro/Expression Media for many years now. I was very afraid that the acquisition of iVMP by MS would eventually spell doom and gloom ....

Are you privy to any info as to the possible future for EM ... and ... if that future is uncertain and iVMP/EM has run it's course .... what are our possible software options for maintaining archives extending into the future?

That's the best news I've heard in quite some time ... can't wait to get a copy ... Thanks Peter

Like Rick said ... you need to write your metadata to the XMP sidecar files or the DNG. Under Metadata-Write metadata to files

Hey Beardy,

Will your book offer info on the update ... or just the original v1.0? Either way I look forward to the book.

I just now (June 5) downloaded Expression Media, hadn't the chance when the email arrived on June 1. Got the serial number and entered it, all went fine ... so far ... won't have time to play with it until later on in the week. Doesn't appear to be anything to get excited about yet, except for the new icon. :Smiley

iView Media Pro 3 is available from Amazon.com for $149.99 with free US shipping. Purchasing now would entitle you to a free upgrade to Microsoft Expression Media when it is released. Lightroom is on special until the end of the month for $199.99. I know it is a lot of money for a serious amateur, but for $350.00 you are home free for some time to come. Compared to cameras, lenses, memory cards, computers, etc. - this is a wise investment. (IMHO) I personally use this combination for my studio and find it quite impressive for keeping track of everything digital in iView while lightroom is only used for current working files until the order is complete then those files are purged from the LR database and handled soley by iView. unlike LR, IV will keep track of just about any file type there is - photos, InDesign documents, pdf, word docs, excel, and on and on. Just works for me, and I don't spend money on software willy nilly, but I'm very glad I made the investment in both iView and Lightroom.

Hi Danny G

This is very similar to what has been going on in my head as to using LR for the Lion's share of the bulk processing tasks and iVew for the master catalog. Once an order has been delivered, create DNG with the DNG converter move to JBOD archive, catalog in iView, add private metadata, then delete the job (for organizational purposes) from LR until it grows into a better DAM workhorse. I like iView and the team that created it .... I, however, am not optimistic to it's future at MS. I wish them the best, but I have a feeling if push comes to shove, Mac users like myself may get left behind by licensing issues if nothing else. I'm not tryimg to cause a great debate ... just looking to the future and expolring as many options as I can. I can even envision having a catalog on both systems at some point in the future if possible.

Hey John,

Nice blog, need to really spend some quality time reading it in detail. I'm trying to focus on work and will have to wait until this evening to for recreation. Michael Tapes did cover the Auto-Sync ability in one of his newest video tutorials ... was one of the tipping points for me to purchase ... along with a promotional code that saved 15% ... seems like after the learning curve, LR should really speed up my work flow. The spot and healing was another deal maker as healing blemishes seems to be about the only task I HAVE to do in PS on the vast majority of images.
