Software Discussions / RAW File Converters / help renaming files with Adobe DNG convertor
|
on: February 26, 2010, 08:28:08 PM
|
|
I'm trying to rename my files as specified in The Dam Book. for example, IMG_4567.RAW becomes:
LastName_Date_4567.DNG
I can't seem to get Adobe's DNG convertor to add in the capture date and the files ID number (4567). I used to use Lightroom/Expression Media, but I now use Aperture 3 and need some help renaming my DNG files for Aperture.

Software Discussions / Aperture / Question about DNG and sidecars
|
on: February 25, 2010, 11:56:54 AM
|
|
I used to use Microsoft Expression Media. When I would edit a .DNG file in Photoshop and update the sidecar or JPEG preview, EM would show the .DNG with the new adjusted preview in its catalog.
I noticed Aperture 3.0 doesn't read these adjustments from my .DNG files. Is there a way to get Aperture to properly read my .DNG files?
Conversely, when I make RAW edits in Aperture, can I view these on the .DNG master in Photoshop? How?

i use expression media currently but am having a few issues with my mac on snow leopard. i don't really want my cataloging software to be expression ever again given the lack of support/development.
i'm looking for something where I can catalog my images and some movie files. are there any solid alternatives for cataloging on a mac?

Software Discussions / Choosing Software/Other DAM Applications / Re: video files with DAM catalog

peter, im not too familiar with lightroom, but it looks like i'm stuck with iview. i need some video clips side by side with photos.
would you say LightRoom can replace the workflow as far as Bridge -> iView goes? is it good to use lightroom to bring in a shoot, organize, and send to dmg. (After this I let iView take over for cataloging).

Software Discussions / Lightroom / going from iView to LR
|
on: December 11, 2007, 05:58:43 PM

I'm swithcing to LR and am pretty new to the program. The best part about iView for me was the Catalog Sets. I was able to organize and use these to quickly find photos.
I'm not sure how to import my iView catalog sets into LR. Is there something similar in LR?

Software Discussions / Aperture / Projects and Folders
|
on: August 26, 2007, 01:47:25 AM
|
|
Hi all, I'm not sure I understand the difference between Projects and Folders in Aperture 1.5.4. I know Albums contain photos and Folders can contain several albums, but what is the purpose of a Project? If it's to contain several Folders, doesn't that seem redundant since you can nest Folders?
Could someone please clarify?

Software Discussions / Choosing Software/Other DAM Applications / Getting back into DAM - catalog app for mac
|
on: August 13, 2007, 07:26:12 PM
|

With so many choices, it's a bit confusing. I was using iView for quite a while. I had to take about a year off from photography and DAM in general and now that I'm getting back into it, I see MS bought out iView and released Expressions.
I have about 12,000 photos and don't shoot as often as before. I'm not sure which cataloging app to use. I'm considering the following: Expressions, Aperture, and Lightroom. I just bought a 24" iMac, so if someone could point me towards a program I would appreciate it. I'm mainly looking for a program that will let me keep track of my large photo collection and successfully organize it.

Software Discussions / Bridge/ Camera Raw / Re: dng images get "auto adjustments"
|
on: April 30, 2006, 11:09:55 AM

You would not want images to pick up settings just because they had been viewed with the settings.
Peter, I would have thought the opposite, since you look at the "pretty good prints" you are working with. I wouldn't want them to all of sudden convert to something else. Just for clarification, the ONLY way to convert DNG with the NO AUTO setting is to actually apply it? (So there is no way to make this a default where applying it is not necessary?)
