Peter,

Welcome back. I've been a bit out of touch myself.

Sebastopol? Are you giving a workshop or presentation there that I might plug into? I'm half an hour away in Marin.

Peter,

In the previous post, you refer to a relatively new library of "modest" size. What do you consider "modest"? And what about future growth of such a library? How large a library can Lightroom manage?

5  General / General Discussion / Re: Why does 'Show unread posts' facility not work properly? on: January 23, 2007, 01:08:06 PM
David,

Yes, language is fun, varied.

"a duzy" is an old fashioned term, I haven't used, or heard used for a while (in the US) but it seemed to fit. I just looked it up in the dictionary. It's actually spelled "doozie" or "dozy", probably American in origin ca. 1925-1930 or earlier and is defined as, "Something remarkable of its kind."

"Heads up!" Dictionary says: "heads-up, an alert, warning". Currently pretty commonly used in the US.

IIRC personal messages were disabled a spammer used them. As we're pretty successful at stopping the scum at the door, I've enabled personal messages again, so see if you can now read them. I'll have a quick look at the profiles too.

John

Ah Ha!

That explains why I had a personal SPAM message yesterday that I hadn't seen before. From the notorious spammer "Forum Admin" -- posted LAST July and (from the header) to many others too! So, like me, anyone who didn't open this message last July will be getting the duzy now!  Angry

Heads up!

Thanks, Mark. Yes, page 118 has the answer. Darn! Bridge Center looks like a useful tool. Wish I could use it.

Thanks Chris. Can someone else confirm this? I do have PS CS2 standalone.

Recently got the Training Disks. They look great. Thank you Peter.

Though I've been using DAM Book basics for a year, with the videos I've been rechecking my set-ups. Under my  Bridge Preferences - General I don't find "Bridge Center" under Favorites Items as shown on the video. Just updated to Bridge 1.0.4.6, not there either. Looks very useful. How can I access it?

The real ARC 3.6 is up and running. Worth waiting three weeks to see what the Canon 400/XTi can do. Finally getting to see the pictures, priceless!

Peter,
I'm sure I have the plugin in the correct place because every day I get the message that I am running ARC 3.6 beta and on December 31 it will "go up in smoke"! I'm sure it is 3.6 beta that is reading my XT files just fine. I had removed the 3.5 version to an empty desktop file folder before installing 3.6 beta. But I'll double check. Thanks.

Peter,

Thanks for giving it a try.

Of current necessity, I've used the XTi very little. The XT has, as always served well. I've set XTi files aside (about 1% of total photos) to have a better look and do the ususal DAM stuff when the final version of ARC 3.6 comes out. Not a significant problem.

Hello from India!

Interesting addition to this discussion. First day here I took my new Canon Rebel XTi out for a spin. Came back and downloaded files. But alas, RAW converter 3.6 beta would not recognize the files. Of course DPP does, but that is a disaster in my view. So, the XTi's RAW files are safely tucked away waiting for the real 3.6, whenever...

Back to my trusty, year old XT which ARC 3.6 beta does recognize. And all is well now, just can't use two bodies and two lenses - I can live with that.  And the XTi sits in the hotel room as a "back up" if necessary.

Thomas, you failed me! (grin). Looking forward to downloading the "real" ARC 3.6.

Peter,

Thanks for the good word. I'll install it. Also, think I'll have access to a DSL line till mid month, so may yet get the final version.

It's been a cliff-hanger. Thanks to all for comments.

Peter or anyone,

Today Adobe Canon RAW 3.6 public beta is available for download MAC & Win.

Sunday evening I leave for India with both a Rebel XT and XTi. Would have liked to use the XTi for primary body, but because DPP won't work for me, I had acquiessed to continuing with XT as main body. Though far from ideal, I was going with DPP for the XTi primarily for viewing, no conversions. Planned to "bucket" XTi raw files by date and deal with most of it when I get home.

OK, I always hear you say, don't use a beta for anything you care about. Does it hold in this case?? It's nice to think that Thomas and his crew have just come in under the wire for me. But maybe not. Please advise.
