1  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / Syncing People and Keywords on: December 18, 2010, 06:30:21 PM
Does anyone have an applescript or an easy way to sync People and Keywords so they are the same?  I have a bit of mish-mash with People and Keywords not consistent and want to store my people in both People and Keywords.

I could do it manually by selecting a particular person and assigning the same keyword to the selected images, and then selecting the keyword and assigning people (unfortunately they are not properly synced).
I have tried to write an apple script and got completely messed up.

Help

2  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / EM2 Not updating folders properly after deleting items in Bridge CS4 on: November 20, 2010, 02:13:33 PM
I do my initial screening, rating, keywording in Bridge CS4. I also delete images that I do not want here.  I had already added these images to EM2. After deleting the images in Bridge I went to EM2 and updated the folder but it did not remove the deleted images from the catalogue. The only way I could do this was to remove the folder from EM2 and then update the parent folder. Then it would come back in with the correct number of images.

I think this was not a problem before. It has an easy fix but annoys me.

Has anyone written an AppleScript that would take the EXIF lat long information and put it in the IPTC header (Annotations) of EM2?
Is this worth it?

Hi Marion

Unfortunately DreamSpark only supports Windows OS and my daughter has a Mac.  We could run bootcamp but I think it is easier for her to use EM1 for now.

Too bad

Hi Roger

I am having trouble getting the -exec to work - it does not recognize the {} after the > redirection so I get one file called {}.jpg out

David

So, for instance, here's a simple command which will work on OSX with exiftool properly installed, to extract previews for every file in a given path, placing the previews in the same path as the original, with ".jpg" appended to the original filename:

find "/path/to/image/directory" -name "*.dng" -exec exiftool -b -JpgFromRaw '{}' > '{}.jpg' \;

Hi Marion

Unfortunately I live in Canada and for some reason the same offer is not made here on the Canadian site and I can't order from the American site.

Thanks

Josh very good post. It is the addition that Peter really needs to add to his book...some "recipes". I use the exact flow you use except I use Adobe DNG Converter to go from my ORFs to DNG.  I also toss the ORFs because the DNGs represent the original data exactly.

Unfortunately I am behind on my tweaking in ACR and have a backlog.

You gave me a great idea. I have given my free copy of XM1 (EM1?) to my daughter. It is buggy but she is a very basic user. If she likes it she can get the upgrade to XM2.

I have other software that qualifies for a $99 upgrade to XM2 anyway

Thanks. I saw the upgrade page with little info. I guess sometimes I don't trust MS!!!  There is little info on what you need to activate the upgrade. They must require the iView license key.

I am sticking with iView as long as possible. I downloaded the trial EM2 and it looked almost exactly like iView.

Still undecided if I want to spend $133 (CAD) for EM2 for my daughter.

I looked at the download for the upgrade and there is no information as to how it works. She does not have IVMP3 installed nor Photoshop on her MacBook.  Can I still give her the upgrade?

I have been trying to find a post which reviews inexpensive DAM software for my daughter.

She is fed up with iPhoto and it's inflexibility but really just wants to organize her photos and do basic cataloguing.
(I use II, IVMP3,CS3).

Perhaps I am too cheap and should just buy her EM but....

Most of the more inexpensive pieces of software Shoebox, QPict Media, seem to be buggy with lots of issues of crashing.

Please if you have any suggestions...
