Hi Peter,
Evidently iView became Microsoft Expression Media. I see no info about iView on this website. Can you recommend a catalog program to use as I do not see how I can migrate my iView software to my new computer.
Thanks,
Elsie

Hi Peter,
I took your workshop several years ago. I was trying to move my iView Pro 3 software Version 3.0.1 to a new computer which then asked me for my license number which I can't locate. I like the software as it has worked well for me. I now see that Iview no longer exists. What software should I be using to catalog my pictures. Is there any way of getting a license? I did post a message under iView but was nervous no one would see it as the messages there stopped last year. Your advice much appreciated.

Hi,
I am currently using iView MediaPro version 3.0.1. I was trying to move it to a different computer. it asked for my license number which I am unable to find. On the iView web site it says that it can send me the license but every time I try to send an email it does not go through. I get a Mailer Demon reply. Do you know a way of getting the license from the program? Should I still be using this program? Does Iview still exist? How do I contact them?
Your advice much appreciated.

DAM Stuff / Backup Strategies and Tools / Question about ChronoSync
|
on: June 24, 2006, 03:37:25 PM
|
|
Hi Peter,
Here is a really dumb question but simple to answer I suspect.
Can I use chronoSync to temporarily back up my entire harddrive before I upgrade from panther to tiger on my laptop. If so, do I make a folder on my backup drive and then sync my laptop harddrive to that folder? Or, do I need a different method or software like carbon copy to do the back up? I know chronosync will copy files and folders but will it copy the operating system? Sorry for my confusion. Help always appreciated.

Software Discussions / iView MediaPro / Iview general ?

Hi All,
I have been doing my cataloging on my desktop. I just transfered my up to date catalogue to my laptop because I have to be away all day. Can I catalog files from my laptop then move those files to an external drive and have Iview know where they are? Is there some way of accomplishing this? Or, do I always need to import files into the catalog from the place that they are ultimately going to be stored?
Thanks for any info!

DAM Stuff / Backup Strategies and Tools / Chronosync?
|

Hi Peter,
Where can I find Chronosync. This is the program that I should use to back up files from an internal harddrive to an external firewire drive? If the cache is in the folder on one drive will transfer with that folder to the second external drive?
Thanks Elsie

DAM Stuff / DNG / Cache and DNG files and back up ?
|
on: February 03, 2006, 08:31:03 AM

Hi Peter,
Thanks for you help yesterday with "setting the capture date," it solved my problem!
I have a general question. After I make my DNGs on my Laptop, I transfer them to an internal drive on my desk top and an external drive attached to my Desktop. There is no cache attached to these DNGs, correct? Should I somehow export cache with these DNGs?
I know if I open a folder of DNG files in Bridge it will create cache for that folder. So my next question is before I burn my backup DVDs do I want to include cache in these DNG folders?
Also, I have been manually synchronizing my internal drive with my external drive. Should I do this with the Mac "backup" software or is there a better software to use.
Sorry this is so basic, but I am making progress, however slow.

Software Discussions / iView MediaPro / Metadata ?
|
on: February 02, 2006, 10:00:40 AM
|

Hi Peter,
Here is my problem: I took some pictures with the wrong date set on the camera. No. 1 can you change the "date created metadata" or are you stuck with that? no.2 When you convert to DNG do you loose that info anyway. It appears that the date created refers to the date that the dng was made. no3. Would it make sense to take these dng pix out of IView, do a batch rename in bridge and then put them back in IView. Is this just asking for trouble? Should I just move on? Of course, I already deleted my original Raw Nefs.
Any advice appreciated. Sorry for the muddle.

Software Discussions / iView MediaPro / How to back up catalogs in Iview?
|
on: January 30, 2006, 11:02:52 AM

Hi Peter,
I have two questions. One is I wanted to transfer my IView from my lap top to my desk top. I can't seem to do this and get my settings and the work that I have done in Catalog one to transfer. Says it can't find the original file. Also, is there a way of backing up the catalog after you have worked on it so that you can retrieve the info.
Many thanks,
Elsie
PS If I have to but another "seat" I quess that is OK
