1  Software Discussions / Media Pro & Expression Media / Problems with SP2 - progress report on: March 04, 2009, 04:57:42 PM
Hello,

As several threads have discussed, we have two rather bad issues connected to SP2:

1. Even if you have offline previews built, they won't show in the Media View
2. Asynchronous rendering may get stuck if you page through images in Media View or the Light Table

Microsoft developers have found a fix for offline previews, and it's currently in testing. As soon as we feel confident that the fix does not have any undesirable side-effects, we will release an update.

The asynchronous rendering issue is still under investigation. When we have a fix for it, we'll test and release it as a hotfix as well.

No - an update should just install. Please contact Microsoft and we'll help you get installed - no charge.

Hi all,

I do not have any trouble with sorts. Was that on Windows or Mac?

I haven't had the chance to check media view on Mac. Will do that Monday. But on Windows I do see a problem with media view and offline images. We've not shown offline images - even the thumbnails - all of V2, unless there were full screen previews built. Instead there was a notice that the media file was not found. But now I'm getting a blank screen, even if I have full screen previews built. I'll get that to the developers right away.

One more warning. Within 24 hours of release we found an issue with the new asyncronous rendering in media and light table views. If you page through the images too fast, the rendering gets "stuck." Let each image render before going to the next. We'll deal with that as soon as we can.

For anyone who is having trouble installing the service pack - please call Microsoft. Tell customer service that you have an installation problem. Setup support is free. If they still try to charge you, email xmforum at microsoft dot com. Include your contact information and we will start a case for you at no charge. Dierk, I have your contact information, so I'll get a case started for you on Monday.

Hello Ricardo,

Is your key for Expression Media 1 or Expression Media 2? Was one of the machines Windows and the other Mac? By all rights you should be able to use the same key on more than one machine.

Expression Media is licensed by user, not machine.

Hi Rob,

It sounds like you have a few things going on:

First, the problem updating the folders. There's an issue where you can make a new catalog and import images. But after you save and close it, you can't add more images after you reopen the catalog. We have a service pack coming out soon, and that issue is fixed in it. However, there's a workaround you can implement now. If you change the volume label on the drive where the images are stored, the problem should be fixed.

Peter is right about the temporary files - If you kill Media rather than closing it normally, the temp files left on the system fool it into thinking someone has the catalog open already. See article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953109 for full instructions on deleting the temp file.

The icon getting "stuck" is an issue that we fixed in Service Pack 1, or thought we did, but there have been a few isolated reports of this happening to machines with SP1 installed. However, that does not mean that the process didn't finish. Import or update generally finishes fine. The icon just keeps going around.

Just as an aside, if you drag an image from one folder to another inside Expression Media, or use the Transfer to Folder feature, the file counts in the folders update automatically. The only time you need to update folders in the Organize Panel is when you have moved files around in Windows Explorer.

Hope this helps,
Anita Oakley
