Title: Rank and File question
Post by: DAM_neophyte on July 30, 2006, 04:24:21 PM
OK, I was able to get Rank and file up and running.  My primary goal is to have my labels and ranks transfer over to iVew MediaPro intact.

I changed the names / colors for the rank / labels in IView and gave it a try.  Right now the correct number of starts transfer over just perfect ... very nice.  However, it seems to ignore my labels.  I'm seeing a keyword for TrashMe [8] .. the appropriate label .. but the image it doesn't seem to be mapping to that label exact (see no green band or "TrashMe" label)

Any suggestions?

Jim

Alrighty, I give up ... I've been at this for hours and cannot get this crazy thing to bring anything over to iView that doesn't already import on its own.  My stars import fine ... but it will only see labels as a keyword ... not a label (6,7,8 or 9) and give it the associate color.

Here's what my log is telling me ... what am I doing wrong ... how difficult could this possible be?

Here are my settings ... does something look amiss to you?  Perhaps I'm importing them into iView Pro incorrectly?

Jim,

Sorry to hear you've been racking your brain over this.  Rank & File only stores the actual star rating numbers (1-5) in the Urgency field which is used by iView.  It can only do this for numbered star ratings.  The worded labels, Outtakes, TrashMe, Unrated, and Temp cannot be mapped to a numbered Urgency field value because they are strings; therefore, the keywords are all that will get ported over to iView via the IPTC keywords field.  However, it's relatively easy to select those images in iView using their keywords and manually apply the correct colored label to them.  This has actually been discussed on this forum.  Just do a search on something like "colored labels".  You should find it.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Dan

Thanks for your reply Dan.  I must have misunderstood what this script does exactly.  I thought it mapped to labels in iview.  I appreciate the explaination.

DAM,
Since Labels in Bridge are really identified by their Name, rahter than their keyustroke, there's no good way to map these between applications.  You could, for instance, change the Bridge preference to have the 7 label have a value of "Red" even though the color is yellow.

For this reason, we have R&F write the name of the label to the keywords field.  You can then select all images with that keyword and apply the corresponding label.
