Brian,
I found that the printer only hooked onto my network when I connected it to a 10/100 ethernet switch. Any chance you are using one that is Gigabit with no 10base T?

If you have a question, it's probably best to reference the step number above where things break fro you.

Nope, will not work for me. What are the network settings for eithernet? I'm on Airport to the internet but hooked straight in with eithernet to the printer. There are dozen's of ways to set up the network settings and I've tried everything. I have my OS9 machine and had it hooked up and got the IP address. Did as you say here and more, I have a green light ready on the printer but I still get the 'connecting to printer' then the "network host XXXXXXXXX is busy will try in 5 seconds thing" every time. The printer works on my old G5 with leopard. So the printer is okay. It's just snow leopard that has the appletalk problem. HELP

I was searching for a long time:
... fortunately I found the old IP-Adress of my LW 8500 in some old records, so only took a minute. It works fast and fine and now I also can print on huge paper again. This LW 8500 will not be going to the landfill, as long as toner cartridges are available ...
Thank You

Ethan, I mean that Microsoft's years of neglect of this software has led to a lot of users abandoning EM as a catalog option, and I was wondering whether its purchase by Phase One is too late to bring people back. Products like Lightroom and Bibble get better all the time, and to my mind, Microsoft totally blew a huge opportunity, and only if Phase One really improve the usability of EM will they have any hope of regaining lost market share.

That's what I meant.

Ethan,
As usual, you get right to the point. That is an important question, and I hope that Phase One sees that it's best served by keeping the existing user base happy while adding functionality.
I'll be in Copenhagen soon and will see if I can help nudge them in the direction of keeping the system open, even as it adds more functionality for their users.

I wonder what "Geoff" means by wondering if this is "too little, too late."

I also wonder what advantages and disadvantages will come from this change. You mention that PhaseOne is photographer-centric, and this seems good. But isn't PhaseOne focused on more of a "closed" system with their own capture and processing solustions, and couldn't this put a limitation on their focus of developing an archive catoloing program that serves wider needs?

I thought the purpose of a third-party archive cataloging program was to focus on long-term data management, not (just) the photography. Is PhaseOne up to the challenge?
